Book Matters II

(A joint project of Ortigas Foundation Library, Lopez Museum and Robinsons Children’s Library )

Filipinos read. To further encourage this habit, Book Matters will run for the whole month of September. Book Matters is a program of the Lopez Memorial Museum, the Ortigas Foundation Library and the Robinsons Children’s Library which aims to create more opportunities for the public to read and enjoy works of Filipino authors and Filipino publications. This is its second year.

In cooperation with Jam 88.3, there will be interviews on the design of Unfolding Half a Century: The Lopez Museum and Library with Serj Bumatay, the children’s publication project of CANVAS and with Fr Rene Javellana SJ on La Casa de Dios on three Thursdays, 2-3 pm, beginning September 1. On September 11 , from 1-4 pm, at the Robinson’s Galleria Activity Center, komiks artists and the Ilustrador ng Kabataan will take part in a meet-and-greet the authors and artists, and give a workshop for participants. Pre-registration is required for this activity.

As part of Book Matters, PDI’s Read-Along program will take place at the Ortigas Library on September 18, 10am. This requires pre-registration. In the afternoon, an hour-long talk on how to encourage lifelong reading will be given by Ms Pam Yu of UP Manila. An exhibition of artworks from CANVAS will open at the Ortigas Foundation Library on September 28, 6 pm and will run until October 4. Daniel Tayona of CANVAS will give a lecture-demo on book design at the Lopez Museum on September 25, 2-4 pm.





The Last Journey of Ninoy

A documentary film that chronicles the final eight days of the slain senator’s life: his fateful, six-leg journey that took him to Los Angeles, Singapore, Johor, Hong Kong and Taipei before his assassination at the tarmac of the Manila International Airport. Features last interview of President Aquino before she got sick in 2009.

Storytelling Session for Kids

The Ortigas Foundation invites everyone to Mapping the Mind, a week long event that will feature talks, workshops, exhibit and storytelling session related to arts and culture, history, environment and literature. Line-up of events includes: Pause, Unpause a visual art exhibit by artist Liza Flores from Feb18 to March 18; Creating a Climate for Change, a talk by Yeb Saño, Head for Climate Change and Energy Program of WWF-Philippines, February 18, 6pm; Storytelling session by Adarna House on February 20, 10 am; Alt+Pub : A Mini-Forum on Alternative Publishing on February 20, 2pm to 5pm; Edsa Then and Now: A talk about Edsa revolution in ’86 and the present fight for democracy on February 24,6pm and High Chair Poetry Workshop by Marc Gaba, from February 27 and all Saturdays of March.
