The Eighth (8th) Cavalry is a regiment of the U.S. Army established in 1866. In 1905, the regiment was ordered to the Philippines to defend the islands from guerrilla activity. They also patrolled supply and communications lines and sources of water on the islands of Luzon and Jolo.
