The monitor Monadnock, an ironclad warship with low sides, on which heavy guns are mounted within one or more iron turrets, which may be rotated so that the guns may be made to bear in any position. Full caption reads: "Monitor Monadnock. as photographed by Mr. Webb off Cavite, opposite Manila. When he left Manila the Monadnock was bombarding the village of Paranaque a few miles down the bay shore."
